Hi reader,
The Breach speaks truth about power, but it also tries to do it with humour and fun.
During a discussion about our government’s shallow spectacle of reconciliation on The Breach Show, I made what I thought was a satirical prediction: give it a few years, I said, and they’ll recommend locking up Indigenous peoples in “culturally-appropriate” prisons instead of just abolishing carceral systems altogether.
Well, it didn’t even take that long!

Two weeks ago, the government announced the construction of a new “award-winning” prison building in Quebec that showcases Indigenous art—and is shaped like a soaring eagle.
Satire is dead, I guess!
Whether it’s offering a bit of prophetic irreverence, elevating perspectives you won’t hear in the establishment media, or investigating policing, racism, and colonialism, The Breach is a unique voice in the Canadian media landscape.
To support and sustain our journalism in 2024, we need to reach an end-of-year goal of 100 new sustaining members.
This month only, we’re raffling off 10 remaining Breach sweaters (I love mine). Everyone who joins at $15/month or more (or annual equivalent) will be entered to win.

Styles and sizes are limited—sign up now for the best chance to get the one you want. (You’ll also be entered to win a Breach tote.)
We’re just 38 sustaining members away from our goal. Will you become a monthly supporter today?
